The Fugitive (1993)

2013-10-17

The Fugitive is a film by Andrew Davis featuring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. It tells the story of Doctor Richard Kimble, a wrongly convicted man who flees the authorities and tries to establish his innocence.

I can understand why that film got so much critical acclaim at the time. The plot is brainless but efficient, the characters stereotypical but entertaining, and everything is tightly ordered to produce a lot of dramatic effect. There aren’t many plot twists and most of the film is expectable, but expecting the expectable got me even more surprised when I saw the unexpectable.

Even with its unoriginal story and unoriginal mechanics and unoriginal direction, it’s worth watching, as a great example of Hollywood film-making.
